Redirection works from the site it is installed on. If you install on newsite.com then it will only redirect from newsite.com to something else. You cannot get it to redirect an external site to newsite.com - it has no control over the external site.
For WordPress.com you will need to use a site redirect http://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/
